THE WAY I SEE IT!

Welcome to my blog - the place where I come to share my current life happenings. My story kinda goes something like this:

Way back in 1998 I met Pascal - aka "P" in a bar - we hit it off and before the year was up I decided to quit university and shack up with P and his roommates, which by this time DID NOT include the two strippers...fast forward to 2008... I am knocked up, we quit our extremely stable jobs in BC, sell our townhouse, buy a house in Quebec that we found on the Internet without seeing it first, drive 40 plus hours straight across the country while 6 months pregnant, in the Xterra with our dog Jake, and settle into a new life with no jobs in a town that we just randomly picked from a map...fast forward to October 2008 and my water breaks 5 weeks early and we welcome Baby Emma into the world healthy and mostly happy ;-)

So won't you follow along on my journey from successful DINK (double income no kids) to successful mother and domestic diva!

Camping with the trailer!

Well as some of you may know we bought a trailer….a real, screw the tent and the old school camping we have a kid and lets just make it easier on ourselves camper! I am not sure how I actually feel about it to be honest….i love camping, i love being outdoors, sleeping on the ground, cooking on a picnic table and all that jazz, but when you add up the kid and the dog and all the crap that goes along with it, a trailer makes sense. And as much as it pains me to be “that kind of camper”, i must admit the convenience is awesome. We have all the amenities you could ever want, we have heat, we have a/c, we have a tv, we have HEATED BEDS! My friends if you have never gone camping in a hybrid trailer and experienced heated beds well then my friend you have not lived. For those who don’t know what I meant when i said hybrid, it simply means we have a trailer, but both the ends of the trailer pop out into beds and have a vinyl tent fabric so it still feels like a tent, you still get the humidity and cold…but with heated beds, my god it’s amazing…..I will never go back, NEVER.

Anyway, we hit the road on labour day weekend (look at me posting within a month of taking a picture) for a little family camping trip. We picked a campground and went…we knew nothing of the place, but figured what the hell… Turns out it was an open campground with a ton of regulars who all drove golf carts around the place for amusement…and when I say they drove golf carts, i mean they drove them…all day long!!!! So annoying…..but oh well…we got out and enjoyed our trailer, and Emma and Jake had fun! which I guess in the end is all that matters.

Here are some snaps of the little devil spawn in all her glory…did i mention she woke up at 5am everyday!!!!!

I blame the above outfit on pascal and his matching ability. I apologize…he will be punished and made to watch project runway ;-)

Summer Fun

Well, I finally had some time to edit a bunch of pictures I put together a little video….please enjoy…..and the more comments I receive the more likely i will post more soon….tell all your friends.

Happy Friday everyone!

Music makes the world go ’round

Pascal likes to play – Emma likes it when he plays….just some cute moments between the two.

My Little Duster Bunny

Okay, so my last post shows just how long its been since i blogged…hopefully i can get back on this train so all you mean people out west who have been talking about me behind my back can now have something nice to say :-) Oh and i guess I failed to mention in the last post, that those pics were taken in January and Emma look nothing like that now. She has a boyfriend, likes to stay up all night and talk on the phone and I think she snuck out of the house the other night and went for a joy ride in the truck! I can’t complain though, i mean at least she helps me out around the house….and sometimes has the face of an angel- BARF!!!!!!! did i just say that?!?!

Pitchin’ In

Yes I am alive!

Well, in January I went back to work, and that meant that everyone around here has to pitch in…even Emma….

Baby Théo!

Last we week we had unexpected but totally awesome house guests! Of course I begged M to let me do a maternity photo shoot and I am so honoured that she acquiesced to my begging. I love M – she is the most genuine loving person I have ever met – when she walks into a room I swear it lights up, and I am not one to make comments like that. I am so happy for C & M and their little family and I can’t wait to meet baby Theo! Thank you C & M for braving the 90% humidity and trusting me to capture this special time!

Breakfast time

Just some recent photos of Emma and her cheerios!!!

New Years!

So back when I was a good mom and actually took pictures of my kid, we attended the annual New Years party with Pascal’s family. It is basically a HUGE gathering of 60 or so of his closest relatives (read aunts uncles and cousins and various offspring). We eat, we drink, and we dance….or at least the kids dance. Emma was awesome, considering the party was starting right at her bed time! Since her complete routine was all messed up from the teeth, we let her nap as long as she would that afternoon and let her rip it up on the dance floor all night.

Breaking her routine was a little scary for me, but in the end no harm was done, we all survived, and Emma outlasted all the other kids, she was still going strong at 2am when the party ended, at which time, i put her jammies on, bundled her up in a snow suit and blanket and she was asleep before we pulled out of the parking lot.

I only snapped a few pics because I spent a lot of time chasing her around (she kept trying to escape outside, where it was about -20)

Seeing Red!

You know how some people leave their Christmas decorations up waaaaayyyy to long (like some of my neighbours who still have wreaths and garland up), well I think i am guilty of a photographer/blogger version of this. I have jut now gone through and edited my Christmas pictures of Emma. I know that none of you are here for the story, but I am gonna write it anyway, cause I want to remember this Christmas just the way it was, a GONG SHOW!

Every Christmas we go up to P’s hometown and spend the holidays with his family and friends. I absolutely love how everyone comes together and it is just one big fun party. I think however it has taken me this long to recover from the hell that was my daughter. Let me just say that I hate teething, I hate teething, I hate teething, and one more time for good measure I HATE TEETHING!. I know I can’t complain too much, I know that there are many other people out there who have a harder time with their children than I have with Emma, and for the most part she is a fairly easy kid. HOWEVER, did I mention that she doesn’t take to teething very well.

If you follow this blog you will remember that we had a horrible time with her in the summer, and then things calmed down after her birthday in the fall. She actually even started to sleep through the night and was napping well….then December hit…then the eye teeth, then the molars…then the HELL. Like someone please beat me with a sledgehammer filled with nails hell. I mean, I still can’t even believe that I made it out alive. Naps went to hell, nights went to hell, but during the day, or during the night when we were at a party, it was fine. It was like she was faking me out into thinking it was all going to be okay. She was putting on a show for everyong to fall in love with her, then we get home, go to bed, and all hell breaks lose. Just so you don’t think I am serious, Pascal and I went out one night with his friends for a drink….Emma went down to bed fine, then when we got home at 1 just layed down to sleep she woke up screaming…..and she continued to scream until 6 am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHO DOES THAT! Then she was up at 8, then I dropped a glass bottle on a tile floor, then i cried, then i cried some more….and then i contemplated drinking…a lot!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, we made it through the other side. I know we are not the only ones to have experienced this….I know some people have it worse…and I know that I am thankful to have had those rough times now because I can truly appreciate it when Emma does now sleep from 7 to 7 OMG my kid will now usually sleep 7 to 7!!!!!!!!!! Really it’s the small things!

Okay fine, enough of the pitty party…here are a few snaps of our Christmas eve present unwrapping festivities…..you will note I didn’t get too many pics, cause i was in a wine/haven’t slept in a year coma!

Oh yeah did i mention that in the week and a half we were gone Emma cut like 6 teeth!!!!!!!!

Trick or Treat

Yeah I’m a little behind the 8-ball on this one, but hey, like the old cliché goes, better late than never eh!

Halloween in our new neighbourhood is INSANE. it’s like a huge block party – you could not drive down our road if you tried between the hours of 6-8 and this year we took out a second mortgage to buy enough candy to last us through the night and we still ran out!!! There are so many kids that come to the door, that starting last year we gave up on trying to stay inside. Now we just pull up some chairs on the patio and hang out outside with the rest of our neighbours.

Last year Jake dressed up as a clown (okay we put a clown wig on him) and he was the hit of the neighbourhood. This year I decided to go with the pumpkin theme for both our “children”. Emma liked her costume, and well I think Jake was a bit embarassed but they both stay in costume until the end of the night. Again, Jake was a huge hit and we had people come up and ask if they could take his picture (remind me next year to charge). Our neighbours dad even came over with his video camera!

Well here you go….Halloween 2009. If you are lucky i might get Christmass 2009 blogged before Valentines Day.
